Game Updates BC Hockey Juvenile Championships

 RIDGE MEADOWS DISH
BC HOCKEY JUVENILE CHAMPIONSHIPS
GAME UPDATES

Game one of the BC Hockey Juvenile Provincial Championships Tournament saw Host team Seafair against their hometown rival Richmond. As it turned out, Seafair was handed it's first loss of the Tournament by a score of 2-1.

Game two of the Round Robin play pitted Burnaby Winter Club (BWC) against the Okanogan team of Winfield. The game was very fast paced with great hits from both teams. BWC was on the board first at 10:10 of the 1st period but Winfield tied the game with 1:58 left on the clock of the first.

Winfield's constant visitations to the 'Sin Bin' were ultimately their downfall in their game against the BWC. Burnaby puts up it's 2nd goal by #7 at 12:41 of the 2nd to make it 2-1. The third period saw the most action of the game. Some awesome hits, 2 quick goals (25 seconds apart) put the BWC up 4-1 over Winfield.  Tempers and tensions flared putting Burnaby repeatedly on the Power Play where they scored their 5th goal at 7:55 of the 3rd.

Burnaby also saw it's share of the penalty box, but Winfield was unable to connect to put any more points on the board. Burnaby Winter Club wins the game 5-1.

Moose Get Shut Out

RIDGE MEADOWS DISH

February 27, 2012

Ridge Meadows Juvenile A1 'Moose' were shut out and forced to a 3rd and deciding playoff game after a 2-0 loss to Burnaby Winter Club Bruins.

The Moose who went into the game 2 points ahead in the 4 point series fell quickly behind the eight ball in the first period. #1 Brenden Vogt, net minder for the Moose was working at full speed keeping shot after shot out of the Ridge Meadow net.

A flurry of costly penalties plagued the Moose during the entirety of the game.  The first goal was scored on a four on four, while the second goal a full strength goal.  Burnaby Winter Club was aggressive on the ice, keeping Ridge Meadows from tying the game.

With the series now tied at 2 points a piece, the series returns to Burnaby on Wednesday February 29th.  Puck drops at 9:45pm at the Burnaby Winter Club, which is located 4990 Canada Way in Burnaby.

If Wednesday's game ends in a tie, a fourth game will be played back at Planet Ice in Maple Ridge (date TBA if necessary).  This game will continue until a clear winner is decided. In other words, a tie will force sudden death overtime periods with no shoot out to decide the winner.

With the caliber of talent on both teams, combined with the hunger to get to the next round of the Juvenile Playoffs. Wednesday night's game is sure to be a thrilling event for any minor hockey fan to enjoy.

Ridge Meadows Juvenile Moose in Playoff Chase

RIDGE MEADOWS DISH

February 23, 2012

Minor Hockey in Ridge Meadows is in full swing of the playoffs and the Juvenile A1 team, affectionately known as the 'Moose' are winding their way through the flurry of teams in order to achieve their ultimate goal of a Provincial Championship. Coached by Derek Ferguson, Derek Bedard and Brady Dysserink all whom are former Moose players.

The Moose have had plenty of playoff experience including a few trips to the Provincials (this year held at the Richmond Ice Centre).  The 2008 crushing defeat to Surrey A1 in Prince George weighs heavily on the minds of these eighteen, nineteen and twenty year old. The brass ring was within reach but slipped through in the waning moments of the Championship Game.

Brenden Vogt, a goalie with the Moose is in his final year with the team. He has seen both the good and bad of the team's efforts and always keeps an optimistic approach to the game. When I spoke to Brenden and asked him for a quote, his response was quick and high spirited. "Well hopefully it will go Moose sweep Bruins".

The Moose already 2 points in the lead of the 4 point series will face the Burnaby Winter Club at Planet Ice (Cam Neely rink) on Sunday February 26th. The puck drops at 8:15pm and it is sure to be an exciting game.

Championship Game PCAHA Juvenile Scholarship Tournament

RIDGE MEADOWS DISH

The game we have all been waiting for is finally here!

Today starting at 3:00pm at the Sungod Arena in North Delta is the Championship Game of the 30th Annual P.C.A.H.A Juvenile Scholarship Tournament.

Today's game is sure to be an exciting one as it will pit the Senators (coached by Dan Melanson representing Burnaby Winter Club and Derek Chichak representing Seafair Minor Hockey) against the Canucks (coached by Maurice Hamlin and Jim Schuck both representing Richmond Minor Hockey).

The Canucks having lost their last round robin game to the Senators 7-4 Thursday night, have something to prove in today's game. Both teams while chasing the trophy are also in the hunt for the individual player bursaries.

After the game, the Championship Trophy will be handed out to the winning team as well as first and second place medals. The underlining reason behind the Tournament will be the presentation of three $500 bursaries (One player from the Senators, Canucks and Flames) along with the game MVP's.

Admission is free and souvenir programs will be available for only a 'Twoonie'. Sungod Arena has a concession as well as a pool if you wanted to make a whole day of it.

Come on out and cheer these amazing young men on! Let's show our support for Minor Hockey!
