Welcome to my world. The destination is not nearly as exciting as the journey. Follow me on my journey to see where it takes us. It won't always be funny, but it will always be real.

Lost A Piece of my Childhood
RIDGE MEADOWS DISH
February 29, 2012
I lost a piece of my childhood today when Davy Jones of the Monkees passed away.
The dreamy teen idol won the hearts of millions of girls around the world along with Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork and Micky Dolenz who completed the iconic Monkees.
The Monkees who were the quintessential original 'boy band' even had their own television variety show that ran from 1966 to 1968. They continued to make music and tour through 1970.
Michael Nesmith is widely known in the business world as his mother was the inventor of Liquid Paper (a widely used correction liquid for typewriting and writing) when he was thirteen. She sold her company to Gillette in 1980 and died a few short months later.
The Monkees were the American answer to the Beatles. The foursome were clean cut, fun loving and toured for several years after their show ended. Davy even did a guest Cameo appearance on an episode of the very popular Brady Bunch in 1971. Davy continued to sing and act including voice over work right up until his death today.
Davy is now among several of my other childhood idols who have passed on: Elvis, Michael Jackson, Ricky Nelson among others.
So my darling Davy you are on the "Last train to Clarksville" and I will remember you fondly and with a smile on my face tell you "I'm a believer".
Rest in Peace Davy Jones.

End the Bullying
RIDGE MEADOWS DISH
February 29, 2012
Today is not only Leap year day but it is also Anti-bullying Day!
Bullies have been around since the dawn of man. Even the Bible mentions them; David vs Goliath, Cain vs Abel etc. For centuries bullies have picked on, beat up, stole from, and made others cry. Now, through the magic of social media, bullies have stepped up their tactics to the point of forcing those being bullied into a corner that there is no escape from.
Cyber bullying has taken several lives over the last few years and it's time to put a stop to it. Bullies will stand down when stood up to. We, as a society have to stand up and say "We have had enough and we won't take it anymore". "Your days are numbered as a bully. We will win".
In honor of today being Anti-bullying day, people are encouraged to wear pink shirts to show their support.
If you have ever been pushed around by someone who thought they were 'bigger than you', 'smarter than you', 'more athletic than you'. Then stand up and be counted.
No more bullying period.
We all have the RIGHT to live on this earth. We all have the RIGHT to learn, laugh, love, marry, play. Most of all, we all have the RIGHT not to be afraid.
If you or someone you know is being bullied, there are people out there to help. For teens, call the Kids Help Line 1-800-668-6868

Perseus Proves Perfection
RIDGE MEADOWS DISH
February 28, 2012
Perseus, son of Zeus and the mortal Danae was, according to Greek Mythology, the one whom slay the Titan Medusa to save the ancient city of Argos.
Perseus, is also a delightful winery in Penticton, British Columbia. Originally known under the Synergy Winery and Vineyards in 2009, the name changed in 2010 to reflect the new vision. Owned by Rob Ingram, Sam Elia and Bob Hole via Terrabella.
2010 saw the birth of the tasting room which is built in a 1950's homestead. The warmth of the Lower Bench and residential neighborhood gives Perseus a charming personality. Open daily from spring until fall to curious wine lovers in search of 'immortality' via a bold glass of Shiraz Cabernet.
Hockey fans can indulge in a rare vintage: Special Edition Hockey Hall of Fame Invictus.
Whether you are looking for a full bodied red like Tempus or a light crisp white like Pinot Grigio, Perseus Winery delivers in mythic excellence.

Moose Get Shut Out
RIDGE MEADOWS DISH
February 27, 2012
Ridge Meadows Juvenile A1 'Moose' were shut out and forced to a 3rd and deciding playoff game after a 2-0 loss to Burnaby Winter Club Bruins.
The Moose who went into the game 2 points ahead in the 4 point series fell quickly behind the eight ball in the first period. #1 Brenden Vogt, net minder for the Moose was working at full speed keeping shot after shot out of the Ridge Meadow net.
A flurry of costly penalties plagued the Moose during the entirety of the game. The first goal was scored on a four on four, while the second goal a full strength goal. Burnaby Winter Club was aggressive on the ice, keeping Ridge Meadows from tying the game.
With the series now tied at 2 points a piece, the series returns to Burnaby on Wednesday February 29th. Puck drops at 9:45pm at the Burnaby Winter Club, which is located 4990 Canada Way in Burnaby.
If Wednesday's game ends in a tie, a fourth game will be played back at Planet Ice in Maple Ridge (date TBA if necessary). This game will continue until a clear winner is decided. In other words, a tie will force sudden death overtime periods with no shoot out to decide the winner.
With the caliber of talent on both teams, combined with the hunger to get to the next round of the Juvenile Playoffs. Wednesday night's game is sure to be a thrilling event for any minor hockey fan to enjoy.
For more information on the Juvenile Playoffs or any other minor hockey level, visit the P.C.A.H.A website.

Star Struck in Langley
RIDGE MEADOWS DISH
February 26, 2012
A quick trip to Walmart proved to be a lot more fun today thanks to a film crew in Langley.
Driving back from Walmart, I took notice of some filming signage and decided it was a good day to investigate where the filming was happening. Also hoping, if I could spot a few stars along the way.
The bright orange signs pointing the way to a older farmstead home with several cars parked along the road. Pylons marked each side of the lengthy driveway which lead to a few film trucks, dressing rooms and film crews.
I pulled the car off to the side of the road and quickly grabbed my phone. Snapping a few shots of the homestead, I managed to get noticed by a lone security guard that was sitting in her truck.
A smartly dressed gentleman was walking down the driveway as I was taking the photos, but I was not sure as to who he was. Shortly after that, a car pulled into the driveway. The driver waved to me and smiled. I think he realized that I was a lone fan and not a paparazzi as he was calm and slow in pulling into the set location. I managed to look into the car to see a familiar face staring back at me.
The quick gasp of breath and a skip of my heart acknowledging that I was face-to-face with one of my favorite shows actors. The pure exhilaration of being spotted by a movie star and acknowledged for being a star crazed fan was nothing I was prepared for. The euphoria from quickly snapping shots with an ongoing fear of being told to leave was the true test of my resolve.
For the first time in my budding journalism career, I felt like a true journalist. Now, if I can only break through the barriers and get my first real interview.
Oh, I guess by now you are wondering what shows set I was visiting. Well, you'll have to stay tuned to find out. Or, click on the photos and see if you can figure out the homestead.
**hint** it's Supernaturally spectacular!
