A CHOCOLATE CONSPIRACY

A CHOCOLATE CONSPIRACY
COMES TO THE
JOLLY COACHMAN PUB in PITT MEADOWS

Calling all chocoholics, there is a new dessert in Pitt Meadows and it has decadent scrolled all over it.

The Jolly Coachman Pub on Ford Rd in Pitt Meadows has come out with a new dessert. Chocolate Conspiracy is a six layer chocolate cake that has three luscious layers of moist chocolate cake and three deliciously evil layers of chocolate ganache. Topped with fresh whipped cream and a sprig of mint, it is not for the faint of heart dessert goers. This dessert is rich, sizable and enough to share. Although most chocoholics don't share!

The Jolly Coachman has daily specials for lunch and dinner to munch on before you try the dessert. Or just make it a coffee and dessert evening.

Visiting the neighbourhood pub is a tradition for many BC residents. Pitt Meadow's neighbourhood pub The Jolly Coachman, offers up the normal pub wares and some amazing home-style food that makes the mouth water just from the aromas.  After enjoying $.25 wings on a Saturday afternoon or a leisurely meal during the week, be sure to try their Brownie Obsession Dessert.

Arriving in a margarita glass, right off the top is whipped cream and slivered almonds. When the spoon digs in it will discover the fabulous vanilla ice cream that is smothered in nicely warmed caramel sauce. Then the brownie itself is decadent, smooth, chocolaty and melts in the mouth.  Served with two spoons, most will not want to share this dessert with anyone.

CAFE ENCOUNTERS REVIEW

CAFÉ ENCOUNTERS CAFÉ REVIEW

A Pitt Meadows neighbourhood just got cosier.  September 22nd saw the opening of the 'Café Encounters'. Located nestled in the base of the condominium complex at the corner of Davison Rd and Harris Rd.  Owned and ran by Susan and Andy Hunt. Their electric personalities, cozy atmosphere and coffee beans care of the '49th Parallel' make the visit homey, warm and relaxing.

With a blossoming customer base, delicious treats and live entertainment on Friday evenings will make this a perfect spot to catch up with friends.

Moderately priced coffee and speciality coffee made barista style along with some seasonal favorites like Hot Apple Cider and Pumpkin Lattes give the cafe an enticing aroma. Don't forget to try a sample of their biscotti that is beside the coffee prep station.

Sandwiches and of course decadent treats round out the visit to the cafe. They even have toys for the kids! What more could you want from a neighbourhood coffee shop? Well how about Daniel Chocolates, hot soups and chili and homemade hummus. Yes, you can get it all here and in the summers you can look forward to gelato, milkshakes and floats!

All in all, a cafe worth checking out.

Sher's Severed Finger Cookies..just in time for Halloween

Severed Fingers Halloween Cookies

Ingredients

Directions

·       Heat oven to 350°. Use either silicone mats, parchment paper or non stick pans (I use 'Wilton's Baking flour/shortening spray')

·       Place food coloring in a shallow bowl. toss food color and almond halves. The longer they are in the food color the darker they will get.

·       Separate 1 egg. Set aside the white. In a small bowl, whisk together yolk, remaining egg, and vanilla. Set aside.

·       In the bowl of an electric mixer combine butter, sugars, and salt. Beat on medium speed until well combined. Add egg mixture, and beat until smooth, about 2 minutes. Add the flour, and mix on low speed just until incorporated. Wrap the dough in plastic, and chill until firm, 20 to 30 minutes.

·       Divide the dough in half. Work with one piece at a time, keeping remaining dough covered with plastic wrap and chilled. Divide the first half into fifteen pieces. On a lightly floured surface, roll each piece back and forth with palms into finger shapes, 3 to 4 inches long. Pinch dough in two places to form knuckles. Score each knuckle lightly with the back of a small knife. Transfer fingers to prepared baking sheets. Repeat with remaining dough.

·       When all fingers are formed, brush lightly with egg white. Position almond nails; push into dough to attach.

·       Bake until lightly browned, about 12 minutes. Cool completely.

The fatter the fingers the less spooky they will look. I've also tinted the dough in red and green to give them a really disgusting look. Using different color food colors for fingernails will give it a more modern look.

These are great for any halloween party and go fast so make lots. Freeze very well.
