Game Updates Day 3 BC Hockey Juvenile Championships

Game ten on the bright and sunny Saturday afternoon was the battle of the Titans. Number one ranked Surrey Thunder facing off against the powerhouse Richmond Blues. Both teams unyielding and unbeaten heading into this all important game.  The Blues would hand Surrey it's first loss of the Tournament with a balloon bursting 5-3 victory.  The win ensured Richmond's place in Sunday's Championship game. The game also left Surrey shaking their heads and scrambling to scrounge up another victory.

Game eleven in the BC Juvenile Hockey Championships saw the 0-3 Nanaimo Clippers against the 1-2 Burnaby Winter Club (BWC).  The Clippers facing yet another uphill battle here on the mainland, but they were the most gracious losing team thus far in the Tournament.

The team plays with composure, team spirit, endurance and perseverance. They stood tall against the Goliaths and did themselves proud. Nanaimo would score 4 goals in their game against the BWC but it wouldn't be enough as the Winter Club puts the Clippers on ice with a final score of 10 - 4.

Day 3 of BC Hockey Juvenile Championships

Day 3 of the BC Hockey Juvenile Championships started off with the Winfield Bruins facing off against the Nanaimo Clippers. This was undoubtedly the battle of the Province.

The Mighty Bruins drew blood first at 17:36 of the first period. Both teams played a very non physical game but displayed great stick and puck work and kept the game fairly fast paced.  While still full of energy, it paled it comparison to the Surrey/Seafair game the night prior. Winfield would score a short-handed goal at 11:31 to make it 2-0. 

After a terrible bounce off a Winfield defender, Nanaimo would get their first goal of the game at 10:55 of the first. Nanaimo quick with the momentum kept the pressure going in the Winfield zone and would tie the game at 6:55 short handed. Both teams having great scoring opportunities and having goalies that were helping to keep the game tight.

Both Winfield and Nanaimo have played the first period with passion and determination that displays the true heart of the inner hockey player. Winfield would score on a power play with 2.9 seconds left on the clock to make it 3-2 going into the second period.

#13 of the Bruins would pick up his own rebound at 11:55 to extend their lead to 4-2. Winfield would find themselves back in the familiar penalty box repeatedly during the game giving Nanaimo a power play goal at 8:55 of the second period to make it 5-3.

The battle pressed onwards with several 'hit to the head' penalties taken for both Nanaimo and Winfield. Penalties would prove extremely costly to Nanaimo as they drop another hard game 9-4.

Day 2 of BC Hockey Juvenile Championships

Game seven on day 2 of the BC Hockey Juvenile Championships was the BWC against arch rival, the Richmond Blues.  The Winter Club found themselves sailing on the Richmond river of 'denied' as they get rocked 5-1.

Game eight and the last game of day 2 saw hometown Seafair up against top spot Surrey. Seafair and Surrey take the ice in epic form with 'U2' blaring through the speakers. With the energy and the large crowd, it felt like the Stanley Cup finals here in sunny downtown Richmond.

In net for Surrey was their powerhouse goalie #31 Jason Sidhu who has thus far stood between the pipes like a brick wall. Seafair's #1 Tyson Leblanc sat ready in his net to ward off any attempts by the approaching Thunder.

This game stands as one of the hardest hitting games in the Tournament. A quick goal by Surrey at 19:39 of the first period sent Seafair on their determined quest for a win.

Amazing net minding by both teams kept this game tight and tense.  The hard hits continued in the second period and with a two man advantage, Surrey scores at 11:29 to make it 2 - 0.  With a mere 8.4 seconds left on the clock, Seafair scores to end the period 2-1.

Penalty minutes were racked up in the third period as the Thunder and hometown Islanders battled it out on the ice. With 5:59 left in the game, Seafair would tie the game on an even strength goal.

The game would end in a dead exhaustive heated tie of 2-2.

Game Updates for BC Hockey Juvenile Championships

Game four of the series saw the BWC Bruins face the Host team, the Seafair Islanders. The Opening Ceremonies were done prior to this first night of the Tournament's game as it was the main game at 8pm. A great welcome banquet was held for the teams upstairs at the Richmond Ice Center at Riverport in Richmond.

The Islanders didn't let their hometown fans down with a 3-2 victory over the BWC.

 Game five of the Tournament put the Richmond Blues up against the team representing Vancouver Island, the Nanaimo Clippers. The Clippers would soon find  themselves outgunned, outplayed and outscored by the hard hitting Blues. In the end, Richmond would go on to romp Nanaimo 12 - 2.

Game six of the round robin play in the BC Hockey Juvenile Championships was between the number one team on the Lower Mainland, the Surrey Thunder against the team representing the Interior, the Winfield Bruins. Winfield soon found out why Surrey got top nods when they exploded onto the board sending shockwaves through the Bruins unsuspecting bench. Winfield wouldn't lay down and give up, they played hard, hit harder (which woke up a few of the Thunder boys) and by the end of the first period Surrey was up by a score of 5-1.

The second period saw Surrey adding to their massive goal total against the battered Bruins and the only dismal part of the game was the poor sportsmanship displayed by the watching fans. The fan's overt celebrations in a lop-sided game were not a great display of integrity nor fair play.

Winfield managed to get a small rally and scored twice to make it 7-3 in favour of Surrey at 6:58 of the second. The third period saw the Bruins demise with two fluke quick goals by Surrey to make it 10-4.  The final score would end as Surrey 13 - Winfield 4.

Game three of the BC Hockey Juvenile Championships saw the team representing Vancouver Island, the Nanaimo Clippers against the number one team on the Lower Mainland, the Surrey Thunder. 

Surrey, sporting their specialized '3rd' jerseys came out to show why they were the top ranked team. Coming out blazing, the Clippers were left stunned by the 4-1 score at the end of the first period. Nanaimo continued to play the remaining two periods with as much heart, passion and energy as in the first period despite being outmatched by the top spot team.

Surrey's net-minder #31 Jason Sidhu was already standing out as the top goalie of the Tournament. Facing a countless onslaught by the Nanaimo forwards, he stood tall only allowing one goal in their game. Surrey went on to win their game by a score of 11 - 1.

GAME UPDATES

Game one of the BC Hockey Juvenile Provincial Championships Tournament saw Host team Seafair against their hometown rival Richmond. As it turned out, Seafair was handed it's first loss of the Tournament by a score of 2-1.

Game two of the Round Robin play pitted Burnaby Winter Club (BWC) against the Okanogan team of Winfield. The game was very fast paced with great hits from both teams. BWC was on the board first at 10:10 of the 1st period but Winfield tied the game with 1:58 left on the clock of the first.

Winfield's constant visitations to the 'Sin Bin' were ultimately their downfall in their game against the BWC. Burnaby puts up it's 2nd goal by #7 at 12:41 of the 2nd to make it 2-1. The third period saw the most action of the game. Some awesome hits, 2 quick goals (25 seconds apart) put the BWC up 4-1 over Winfield.  Tempers and tensions flared putting Burnaby repeatedly on the Power Play where they scored their 5th goal at 7:55 of the 3rd.

Burnaby also saw it's share of the penalty box, but Winfield was unable to connect to put any more points on the board. Burnaby Winter Club wins the game 5-1.

BC HOCKEY JUVENILE HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIPS

This weekend in Richmond, British Columbia is the BC Juvenile Provincial Hockey Championships. The Tournament started on Thursday March 22 and ends tonight,   Sunday March 25 2012. These are the eighteen, nineteen and twenty year old boys who have paid their 'Minor Hockey' dues. From early mornings practices to late night games, these boys have done it all for the passion of the game.

This year's games started at the Richmond Ice Center Riverport and are concluding at Minoru Ice Rink in downtown Richmond.

With teams representing the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and the Okanogan, this is a true BC Championship. The teams competing for the coveted Gold medal and BC Championship banner are as follows:
