Lost A Piece of my Childhood

RIDGE MEADOWS DISH

February 29, 2012

I lost a piece of my childhood today when Davy Jones of the Monkees passed away.

The dreamy teen idol won the hearts of millions of girls around the world along with Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork and Micky Dolenz who completed the iconic Monkees.

The Monkees who were the quintessential original 'boy band' even had their own television variety show that ran from 1966 to 1968. They continued to make music and tour through 1970.

Michael Nesmith is widely known in the business world as his mother was the inventor of Liquid Paper (a widely used correction liquid for typewriting and writing) when he was thirteen. She sold her company to Gillette in 1980 and died a few short months later.

The Monkees were the American answer to the Beatles. The foursome were clean cut, fun loving and toured for several years after their show ended. Davy even did a guest Cameo appearance on an episode of the very popular Brady Bunch in 1971. Davy continued to sing and act including voice over work right up until his death today.

Davy is now among several of my other childhood idols who have passed on: Elvis, Michael Jackson, Ricky Nelson among others.

So my darling Davy you are on the "Last train to Clarksville" and I will remember you fondly and with a smile on my face tell you "I'm a believer".

Rest in Peace Davy Jones.
