PCAHA Juvenile Canucks Strike Gold

RIDGE MEADOWS DISH

February 12, 2012

The Championship game of the 30th Annual PCAHA Juvenile Scholarship Tournament was held yesterday at Sungod Arena in North Delta, BC.

In what can only be described as 'thrilling', the Senators and Canucks played an epic hockey game resulting in a double overtime 4-3 win for the Canucks. The Canucks who had lost their last round robin game to the Senators came out hungry for 'revenge'. The equally hungry Senators kept the game fast paced with everyone sitting on the edge of their seats.

Outstanding goal tending by Senators #1 Brenden Vogt (Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey) and the tag team goalies  # 30 Jason Sidhu (Surrey Minor Hockey) and #1 Tyson Leblanc (Seafair Minor Hockey) for the Canucks.

Goals for the Senators:

  • #12 Brody Hemrich (Cloverdale Minor Hockey) with assist from #10 Braden Strelezki (Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey
  • #9 Mike Ward (Port Coquitlam Minor Hockey) with assist from #16 Jacob Wiebe (Cloverdale Minor Hockey)
  • #16 Jacob Wiebe (Cloverdale Minor Hockey) unassisted
Goals for the Canucks:

  • #3 Devon Whitter (Coquitlam Minor Hockey) assisted by # 19 David Kemp (Seafair Minor Hockey) and # 10 Michael Rose (Seafair Minor Hockey)
  • #10 Michael Rose (Seafair Minor Hockey) assisted by #5 Justin Oertel (North Delta Minor Hockey)
  • #17 Bobby MacLean (Surrey Minor Hockey) unassisted
  • #5 Justin Oertel (North Delta Minor Hockey) unassisted *double overtime winning goal*
The exciting conclusion to the Tournament, came to it's apex with the rewarding of the Earl Sinkie Trophy (The creator of the Trophy and Tournament).

Brek Stewart (Managing Director Juvenile Division for P.C.A.H.A) accompanied by Earl Sinkie presented the Trophy to the Canucks (Coached by Jim Schuck and Maurice Hamlin both of Richmond Minor Hockey). The boys all received their individual gold medals along with the hoisting of the Trophy.
The silver medals handed out to the Senators (Coached by Dan Melanson of Burnaby Winter Club and Derek Chichak of Seafair Minor Hockey)

The closing ceremonies wouldn't have been complete without the presentation of the three five hundred dollar bursaries to the Tournament MVP's.

First the game MVP's were handed out to:

#1 Tyson Leblanc of the Canucks (Representing Seafair Minor Hockey)
#15 Cale Bechtel of the Senators (Representing Abbotsford Minor Hockey)

The Tournament MVP Winners were as follows:

#7 Trevor Yu of the Flames (Representing Vancouver Minor Hockey)
#15 Cale Bechtel of the Senators (Representing Abbotsford Minor Hockey)
#14 Kyle Baxter of the Canucks (Representing North Delta Minor Hockey)

Game 3 PCAHA Juvenile Scholarship Tournament

RIDGE MEADOWS DISH

February 10, 2012

Last night at the North Surrey Rec Centre was game 3 of the P.C.A.H.A 30th Annual Juvenile Scholarship Tournament.

The game matched up the Senators against the Canucks who were both undefeated. The Senators were quick on the draw and had control throughout the entire game.

Senators player #8 Billy Allen (representing Ridge Meadows Minor hockey) had to leave the game after he was hit against the boards causing a knee injury. (Still unknown as to the extent but hopefully just badly bruised) The Canucks fought back and had tied the game up but the Senators proved just too much for them.

Canucks caught a break when #7 Benjamin Kirlik (representing Surrey Minor Hockey) was pulled down during a breakaway and was given a penalty shot. Benjamin displayed his speed and accuracy in his shot and scored on goalie #30 Brenden Vogt (representing Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey)

The game was exciting, fast paced and the boys fought with determination and fantastic sportsmanship. At the end it was the Senators winning over the Canucks by the score of 7-4.

The MVP's for last night's game were as follows:

#17 Bobby Maclean (representing Surrey Minor Hockey playing for the Canucks)
#12 Brody Hemrich (representing Cloverdale Minor Hockey playing for the Senators

The Championship game and the awarding of the three $500 bursaries will take place on Saturday February 11th commencing at 3:00pm at the Sungod Arena in North Delta. The awards and trophy will be presented immediately following the game.

As always, admission is free and souvenir programs will be available for the great cost of only a 'Twoonie'. Come on out and watch some excellent minor hockey, get a picture with the trophy.  Saturday's game will also be streamed live online via:

RIDGE MEADOWS DISH ISSUE 4

ISSUE 4

THE RIDGE MEADOWS DISH

Yesterday marked the opening of the annual Ridge Meadows Juvenile Christmas Tournament. Hosted between Planet Ice in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Arena in Pitt Meadows BC.

A two tiered tournament that shows off the senior players involved in minor hockey. The 'Juvy' division is for the 18-20yr old to finish out their minor hockey careers. It has grown considerably in recent years with more and more boys wanting to continue on with the game they love so much.

The tournament was the love child of Brek Stewart (who at the time was Managing the Ridge Meadows Juvy A1 team affectionately known as the 'MOOSE'). His love for the game and his commitment to volunteering brought this tournament to life.

After six years of being the tournament's Director, Brek stepped away to open the door for others to take the reigns. This year the Director for the tournament is Bill Allen. A long time volunteer with Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey. His son, is currently playing on the A1 team.

This year sees the addition of two teams from the Interior Region. It's the first time  that the tournament is hosting teams from the area. Previous years, there has been teams from Vancouver Island but never from the Interior.

The tournament runs from Dec 27-Dec 30th.

THE RIDGE MEADOWS DISH

THE RIDGE MEADOWS DISH

What's happening around Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows through my eyes. For my first installment, I present the following:

The Ridge Meadows Food Bank got a nice boost last Saturday, thanks to the boys of the Ridge Meadows Bantam A2 Hockey Team.

The boys sported their jerseys and were asking for a $5 dollar donation which translated into a large paper bag filled with dried goods for the food bank. The foods are pre-selected and placed into the paper bags ready for delivery to those in need.

The energy the boys had was terrific to see and they were all very polite and friendly to incoming and outgoing customers. With the addition and lure of a free candy cane, a $5 donation was an easy sell.

The boys kicked off their Food Drive at 10:30 this morning and by 11:30 had already collected $200 in donations! Thanks to them and their generous nature, alot more families in Ridge Meadows will have food on their tables.

Well Done Boys!
